It is a website that distribute drm-free versions of games. Unlike with Steam where games are not guaranteed to be DRM free, it is a requirement on gog. GOG also doesn't require to use their launcher unlike steam. This gives a benefit of having more ownership (outside of legallity since technically both games on steam and gog are licensed, however in a more practical sense you effectively do have ownership since you are not restricted from playing offline and making backup copies) over a game and have the ability to make backup copies. However, gog has less of a selection of games compared to steam due to many game publishers being overparanoid about piracy and how overall steam is more popular than GOG.
